Strengthening electoral justice, preventing conflict, and advancing democratic consolidation ahead of Zambia's 2026 elections
Four pillars strengthening election integrity
Electoral Dispute Resolution (EDR) is a cornerstone of Zambia’s democracy because it provides peaceful, lawful ways to challenge and correct election-related problems instead of letting grievances spill over into unrest.
When EDR works well, candidates and voters can bring evidence-based complaints to independent bodies, have them heard fairly and on time, and see credible outcomes that reinforce trust in the electoral process.
Zambia’s recent elections show disputes are frequent, but many petitions fail on technical grounds rather than being tested on their merits. Strengthening how complaints are documented, filed and decided makes EDR a real safeguard for voters and supports peaceful, inclusive elections.
